Commuting in Santa Fe

View from the gate of my courtyard to a neighbors house

Sheezy asked me to post a vid of my commute to work and back. It usually takes me about ten minutes (one way) to get to work so I have had to do quite a bit of editing (sorry Sheezy—I don't think anyone wants to watch a 20 minute video of me driving).

I also don't want all you crazies out there to know how to get to my house or office.

Please enjoy...

  1. I love how you have your own theme music at the beginning of your videos. Boy, you really live out in bumfuck don't you?

  2. Typically I prefer the pejorative "suburban" to "bumfuck" but who am I to argue over synonyms.

We do love our open space in Santa Fe. Our population is still under 80,000 (there are usually more tourists here than residents).

It fascinates me in a culturally geographical kind of way that Los Angeles, with a population of nearly 10 million has five times the population of the entire state of New Mexico. Where do all of you stand?

But you guys do have the eternal sunshine, swimming pools, movie stars, millionaires and all the pretty people.

    I should live in California.

  3. I lived in Nogales, AZ. For a year and I couldn't hitch my ass with a trucker to get out of town fast enough, I don't know how you stand it. I mean I hate people too, but you don't see me self-banishing myself to, I think the technical name is, "the boondocks." I need the racket of the big city.

We do have pretty people, but Tory Spelling living amongst us fucks everything up, I still thinks she causes earthquakes.

  4. It's a small world.

I worked as a designer for a Chicago based corporation that had a maquiladora in Nogales, Mexico. I had to stay in a little house in Nogales, AZ a few weeks every year during new production runs to make certain that the products were to spec.

In all that time, I never thought that anyone actually CHOSE to live there. If I was told that I had to relocate to Nogales, I would probably have become a lot lizard too.

Santa Fe is nothing like Nogales, AZ. It really is beautiful here, and you can stand outside in the summer without the fear of your hair catching on fire.

I chose to live in Santa Fe because, up until about a year ago, I was required to travel constantly for work. I got my city fix through business travel and was able to come home to Santa Fe and relax in the mountains.

Now that I am not traveling as much, I do occasionally feel the need to get off the island.

I did forget that the west coast has Tori the Hutt and the east coast has Horsey GaGa—maybe life ain't so bad in one of the square states.

  5. Living out there wasn't a choice, I lived with my sister who was stationed out there (Air Force) when I was 16.

I was kidding about the trucker.

  6. Glad to hear that you didn't actually want to live there—I was starting to reevaluate my opinion of you.

And my God, how much more are we going to inflict on our military? I had no idea that we were making them live in Nogales.

Too bad about the trucker, but I guess 16 is a little too young to be getting into the crusty geezer kink.
